apple & peanut butter quesadilla, colby jack cheese,
Snapea Crisps, strawberries & blackberries
As much as I love to make healthy lunches for my kids, I often find myself in a lunch rut. Eventually, my morning lunch-making routine became......
1. Make some kind of sandwich
2. Add a piece of fruit
3. Throw in something crunchy (or junky)
4. "Oh great, I'm all out of baggies"
BOOOR-ING!!
After doing that for a while, my routine became:
1. Google "healthy lunch ideas"
During one of those many, MANY searches, I discovered something awesome....
These containers have changed my whole way of thinking when it comes to making my kids' lunches! Now, when I make lunches, it goes something like this:
1. What kinds of fresh fruit and veggies do I have on hand right now to pack in here? Ooooh, how 'bout a little of this & a little of that.......
2. How about some dip or yogurt?
3. Now add some protein
4. What about something fun like Snapea Crisps or sprinkles?
5. Let's look at the lunchbox ideas photo gallery and see what looks good......
The possibilities are endless! And now, the first thing my kids say when I pick them up from school is, "I LOVED MY LUNCH!" It makes my day. Every time.

ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! I have a couple of questions. Where do you get snap pea crisps? Items like yogurt or salsa don't spill in the easy lunchbox?
ReplyDeleteOne more- how do you make homemade uncrustables? Is it a pampered chef tool? Thanks!!!!
ReplyDeleteKelly, Thanks for the encouragement! I'll be posting a few more ideas as we close out the last few weeks of school. My kids only have about 2 weeks of school left, but I plan to use the containers over the summer for picnics & short family trips!
ReplyDeleteGayle - Thank you! Snapea Crisps are usually located in the produce dept. I don't buy them very often, but we really like them.
As far as spillage, when I pack those types of things, I usually make sure the container is level inside their lunchboxes (my kids are 10 & 14 so this isn't an issue), but I have heard of people placing a piece of waxed paper over that compartment & it creates a kind of 'seal' that prevents spilling. I haven't tried it, but the lids do fit quite snugly. Also, the website sells "box style" lunch boxes that keep the containers totally flat.
Yes, I use Pampered Chef's Cut n Seal for the uncrustables. I bought it when my kids were very little since they didn't really care for the crust of whole wheat bread. Now I throw the cut crusts into a large freezer bag & freeze them. I use them for breadcrumbs & croutons. Yum! And my kids STILL love the uncrustables to this day. I refuse to buy the store-bought ones. ;)
What size are the muffin cups that you use in your box?
ReplyDeleteAnon, the ones you see in these pics are the standard-sized ones. I got them at Michael's. i also use the mini ones, which I picked up at my local grocery store.
