Dear Type 1 Parents,
Has this ever happened to you? --
Child: "Mom! I'm out of test strips!"
Parent: "What?! You never mentioned you were on the last bottle!"
Well, here is a simple solution we use in our house to make sure test strips get ordered BEFORE we run out.
We just put a red dot sticker on one of the bottles when we open the new boxes. We dont' keep the boxes since I store some of his everyday supplies in one of those plastic 3-drawer sets, but he wasn't always reminding me when he would take the last bottle of strips. This has been a nice reminder to to just say "Hey, Mom, I just opened my last bottle of strips." Boom. Time to reorder. Easy.
And this idea can easily be used for adults who order their own supplies. Each time you open the meter case and see the red dot is a reminder to reorder.
I've started doing it with his supplies at school too since it's now up to him (he's 15) to let me know when his supplies are running low. We put the red dot stickers on one of his reservoirs, sites, strips, peanut butter crackers, (3rd to last package), etc.
What tips do you use for easy reminders when it comes to diabetes? Please feel free to share.

I set up autorefills at our pharmacy for test strips, lancets, and insulin. They send me an email when they are ready to be picked up.
ReplyDeleteWe also have automatic shipment of our pump supplies.
I also use post it notes on some supplies that say "reorder." But I like your red dot idea!
Leighann,
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I just discovered that I never responded to this post! I'm so, so sorry! ; )
Anyway, I never knew that pharmacies had auto refills! We do get our pump supplies through Medtronic that way, but it never dawned on me to check the pharmacy. I will definitely look into it! Thanks for the info! See you in the D.O.C. ;)
google knows it :-D
